Annual Dam(n) Photo

What: Annual Photograph
When: Saturday, July 30, 2011 @ 11:00am
Where: At the Base of Fontana Dam
Who: Everyone!!!!!

I've been told that the base of Fontana Dam will be open again this year. I'm waiting on a phone call to confirm this definitively, but we're planning on having the photo at the Dam again!

Fontana Village has agreed to loan us their bucket truck for the photo again. Killboy will be taking the official photo and Killgurl will probably be at the top of the dam looking down taking photos there. He'll have them available on his website for anyone to purchase at great prices!

Yes I did get the phone call and we are on their schedule. Next objective is to make sure that the grass will be properly mowed for us. TVA is using a new contractor for maintenance at the site and he's trying to get that coordinated for us as well.

This is great news! Glad to hear that the Dam(n) Photo is returning to it's rightful location. Anyone wish to volunteer to help stage cars before the shoot? I'll show up a bit early to help.

Is there a certian area the Mazdaspeed Miata's park in for picture ? Usually I bring my 96 and just park where instructed to. Hope the grass is cut prior to event like stated above in the email chain.

Just talked to TVA and the dam will be open for us this year.

He is also working on getting the grass mowed the week of the event. TVA is no longer maintaining that as a grassy area and they are now keeping that as hay instead. However, it was mowed in early May and will be due to be cut at the end of July. So, it looks like we timed it perfectly.

As I get any future updates, I'll make sure to let you all know!

:dragon:

*edit*

Two more things

First: I just re-confirmed with Killboy that he will be there to take the official picture. Copies will be available from his website once you get back home.

Second: I want to remind you all that the shutter snap will be at 11am. Cars will be lining up prior to that. Don't expect to get there at 11:15 and sneak into the front row.

People will probably be leaving pretty quickly after the photo since the free lunch starts around noon on the ballfield at Fontana Village.

Tell them not to mow the lawn. It will look like we are hiding in the grass!

Everyone make it to this picture! I want to break the 459 miata record!

Fantastic! I'm getting more excited the more I read about it. This is my first ever event like this (I've only had my Miata a year) I'm not super familiar with the area but I'll be staying at Deal's Gap and I'm sure I'll see fellow Miata owners there who can help direct me to the photo shoot!

Go check out the MATG homepage at http://www.gapmiatas.com and then go to the Maps page. There's a map of Things to Do that will let you get directions from anywhere.

And remember... there are only really two roads there, so you can't get THAT lost 8)

but there will be so many Miata's around that you're almost guaranteed to find one to follow behind if you do think you've gotten lost

Thanks I sorta figured I'd not get lost with so many Miatas around LOL I'm excited and a bit nervous. I've not driven a road like The Dragon in what seems ages! But I am SO ready for this! My daughter and son-in-law have ridden it many times on their numerous bikes as well as in May in their VW TDI Beetles...it's a place they love returning to and I'm sure I'll find it the same. =)

Was that a great morning or what? Well yeah, it was oppressively hot but the sky could not have been better for the photo. Looking forward to seeing it (and probably buying it) on Killboy's website. Thanks to Fontana Village for the bucket truck, yet again they went above and beyond.

+1 !!! I am quite impressed by the amount of love Fontana shows the MATG group. That's one of the reasons Dana and I go back to Fontana whenever we visit that area.

And the Dam(n) photo was great, though hot. I'm just glad I got to sit on the front row :)

I can't WAIT to see this photo. This was my first year for MATG and was so excited and impressed with the many different Miatas out there. I have never seen so many Miatas in one place! I debated about joining the Dam photo after the trouble my car gave me Friday night (overheated BAD) but I'm glad I joined in. One thing I've learned is Miata people are great people and they are also very inventive with their tags and plate frames LOL

I was in the third row, left side of the photo. Red MSM (behind the OTHER red MSM). There was also a red MSM in the front row. Individual photos of most if not all the MSM's that were there are available on Mazda-Speed.com. http://www.mazda-speed.com/gallery/2011_Deals_Gap_Trip

Great shots by Killboy. Great footrace to make the event memorable. That should be made an annual event.

We enjoyed meeting many forum members and the hospitality of Fontana was greatly appreciated. The drive from Connecticut was lengthy, but the roads and the people / cars truly exceeded our expectations.

My wife and I enjoyed meeting swingdancr, before the shoot, had a good chat, like most miata people, a very pleasant person to talk to. I hope to renew the friendship next year.

Best I can count, there appear to be about 190 Miatas in this picture.
