Fontana Village Old Cafeteria Site
7:00 PM until ???

Image

It's time to gather your favorite local adult beverages and share them with the crowd at the 2010 MATG Beer Swap and Wine Tasting! As was suggested by THEIslandGirl in this thread, this year we're adding wine to the mix! Once again I will be bringing an assortment of fine beers which I have been collecting throughout the year so bring your palate and your corkscrew and let's have a party in the parking lot!

Last year, the old cafeteria site at Fontana was the perfect spot, complete with tables and a dump bin! The old cafeteria site is just past the General Store at Fontana Village. Meetup time is approximately 7pm and will go until we've had enough.

Also, if anyone has any requests for beers or wines feel free to drop them in this thread!

You bring what you want to swap, trade, barter and taste and do just that.

Sounds simple enough but I didn't want to make any assumptions.

James,

The manager down at the Pit Stop offered to let us use his space for the beer exchange and now wine tasting!

Let me know if you want me to see what we can arrange...maybe we can get the grill going.

See you in 86 Days! Does your b-day fall on that Sunday?

Yeah, Sunday the 25th is my b-day... good memory!

Is The Pit Stop that store at the entrance to Fontana? If so, is the place he's offering the shelter across the street from it? I would think we'd want to stay in the vendor area/old cafeteria site so as to make the walk (crawl) back to the room or cabin as short as possible for those staying at Fontana...

I wouldn't recommend using the shelter for a couple reasons....
    1. It's on public roads and therefore subject to police jurisdiction
    2. People will more than likely try to drive down and back from Fontana.
    3. There's not much parking for more than 7 or 8 cars without impeding on the Pit Stop.

If you like, I can ask for a couple more tables down at the vendor's area for that night.

Josh, you make a good point about the Pit Stop. I think James had a good idea. I would be nice to have food and do a cook out along with it. Just an idea!

Apparently there will be a HUGE COOKOUT right across the street from the beer swap and wine tasting... excellent!

I gotta get over to this site more....think I have been hanging out on Facebook a little too much! I didn't know my suggestion was even taken seriously...HA!

There were a number of tasters at MAMBIV and it went pretty well considering that it wasn't announced until the last minute. We will definitely be bringing a party bottle of Boordy Sangria and some other Maryland wineries. Just forget anything you think you know about Sangria....this one packs a PUNCH and I don't mean it tastes like it! We will have a number of other goodies from Maryland as well. Just a suggestion for this....bring wine NATIVE to your area. Most of us can get something produced in Germany, France, Australia or even California, but due to the archaic beer and wine laws here in Maryland (especially), we are limited to what the smaller wineries around in other states have. Just like microbrews, the hometown wineries take pride in what they produce and this is such a good chance for us wine people to try other things!

With less than one month to go (YAY!) I figured I would put out one last call for anyone that may have any requests from the beer stash... Over the next couple weeks I will be going through the stash and sorting out what I'm going to bring, keep your eyes on this thread and my website to see the beer swap beer list when it's ready! My requests remain the same as years prior... Duck-Rabbit, Terrapin, Sweetwater (420 Pale!) and if anyone can get ahold of some Russian River or Deschuttes that would be GREAT!

Also, just to clarify and avoid any confusion, the beer swap and wine tasting IS happening at the vendor area and NOT the Pit Stop shelter house.

For the first time, there will be vertical tastings (sampling different years of the same beer) with three different kinds of beer! You going to save enough room in the car for a change of underwear?

Hahaha! Believe it or not, it all fits. Along with a duffel bag, hanging clothes, a computer, two cameras and two camera mounts. I used to be a champion Tetris player.

I just wanted to say THANKS! to all that attended the beer swap and wine tasting. Even though attendance was a little down from last year (I can tell because of all the leftovers I either gave away or brought back) it was still one heck of a party. The collection has already begun for next year... only 368 days to go!

P.S. Next year there's going to be a new rule. NO MICHELOB ULTRA! (You know who you are.)
