Annual Group Photograph At Fontana Dam

What:
Annual Group Photograph At Fontana Dam
The “dam picture” has been a Miatas At The Gap tradition since 2002 and the only event where everyone comes together at the same time.

Where:
Powerhouse at the base of Fontana Dam
Google Map from Tapoco Lodge
Goggle Map from Robbinsville
Look for the sign on Rt 28 by the bridge over the river that reads "Powerhouse."

When:
Saturday July 25th 2009
Shutter snap at 11:00 AM
Arrive in time to be in line and parked by 11:00. If you want to meet and greet folks, and stroll among the cars arrive early. Some people arrive as early as 9:00 AM. Give yourself about 20 to 25 minutes to get there from Tapoco, about 35 to 40 minutes from Robbinsville.

How:
Line up with your back to the dam for a photograph with the dam in the background. We will trust to luck that the grass will be mowed (almost never is) and the ground will be firm enough to drive on (almost always is). Someone needs to volunteer to get a ladder or other tall platform to take the picture from. Over the years we have learned that 11:00 AM is the best time for the picture and that we get the best picture with the dam in the background.

Who takes the picture?
You do. There is no assigned photographer. Everyone takes pictures and posts them. With luck, someone will get a really good one.

Result:
If all goes well the picture will look something like this:

Some days you are the bug, some days you are the windshield.

OK, I've got some great news!

I've gotten Bruce McCamish of Amazing Aerial Photography to come take the Dam Picture!

He will be bringing both his blimp and his trailer with 40' mast. He's planning on taking a couple pictures while he's there, one of the cars by themselves and one of the cars with their owners.

He will then sell the pictures at Fontana Village immediately following.

Here's some samples of his past photos:

His contact info is listed in the Vendors section.

Pricing for the photos will be announced later.

Would anyone be willing to assist with the Dam photo? We need someone to help the photographer line up the cars.

Bruce is emailing me pricing. I'll update this post when I receive it.

Wow - whichever pic you get, it will make a great PC wallpaper background.
